Senior Process Development Chemist
Our client, a global leader in specialty chemicals, is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior Process Development Chemist to join their innovative research and development team. This is a fully remote position, ideal for an experienced chemist who thrives on designing, optimizing, and scaling up chemical processes. You will play a critical role in translating laboratory discoveries into robust, efficient, and safe manufacturing procedures, contributing directly to the company's product innovation pipeline.
Responsibilities: Develop and optimize synthetic routes and chemical processes for novel compounds and existing products, focusing on scalability, yield, purity, and cost-effectiveness. Conduct laboratory experiments, meticulously documenting procedures, results, and analysis. Utilize a range of analytical techniques (e.g., HPLC, GC, NMR, MS, FTIR) for process monitoring and product characterization. Perform process safety assessments and implement measures to ensure safe handling of chemicals and safe operation of equipment. Troubleshoot and resolve issues encountered during process development and scale-up activities. Collaborate with R&D scientists, engineers, and manufacturing personnel to ensure a smooth transition of processes from lab to pilot plant and full-scale production. Investigate and implement new technologies and methodologies to improve existing processes and develop innovative solutions. Prepare detailed technical reports, process descriptions, and recommendations for management and cross-functional teams. Maintain a strong understanding of regulatory requirements related to chemical manufacturing and environmental impact. Contribute to the intellectual property portfolio through invention disclosures and patent applications. Qualifications: Ph.D. or Master's degree in Organic Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a closely related field. Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in process chemistry, process development, or chemical engineering within the chemical or pharmaceutical industry. Demonstrated expertise in synthetic organic chemistry and reaction mechanism understanding. Proficiency with common laboratory equipment and analytical instrumentation. Strong understanding of chemical engineering principles, including mass transfer, heat transfer, and reaction kinetics. Experience with process safety analysis and risk assessment methodologies. Excellent problem-solving, critical thinking, and data interpretation skills. Strong written and verbal communication abilities, essential for remote collaboration and reporting. Proven ability to work independently, manage projects effectively, and meet deadlines in a remote setting. Familiarity with Design of Experiments (DoE) methodologies is a plus.
